I realised recently that despite my obsession for all things skin care, that the addition of a dedicated night cream into my daily routine had somewhat passed me by. Experts believe that our skin behaves quite differently at night and therefore requires different skin care products than it does during the day. A good night cream is apparently a must to ensure healthy skin is maintained. Elemis Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream makes big promises, but does it live up to them?
What should a good night cream contain?
During the night is when our skin naturally works to repair itself and replenish nutrients. However is also when our skin loses more moisture. So a good night cream should contain the active ingredients to support this regeneration and increase hydration. These can include Vitamin C to defend against free radicals; retinol to smooth skin and reduce wrinkles; or peptides to stimulate cell growth and improve collagen production for more youthful looking, supple skin. Day creams can also contain these ingredients, however the richer consistency of night cream quite often means higher concentrations of them.
Looking for a night cream which contains the ingredients that match your skin care concerns; be it reducing wrinkles, increasing hydration or brightening the skin, should ensure you are giving your skin the best chance to recuperate and regenerate while you sleep.
Elemis Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream
Elemis is a brand synonymous with luxury skincare, many of their products achieving cult status due to their impressive anti-aging claims. Their Pro-Collagen range of products have won many beauty awards, and this night cream is no different. Its list of accolades includes best moisturiser and best night cream.
Elemis claim that their Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream is clinically proven to give you more radiant, firmer skin. It does this by supporting the natural regeneration process and increasing oxygen levels. The list of ingredients includes Padina Pavonica to improve skin firmness; sesame and avocado oils for free radical protection; and a whole host of other skin boosting goodies. These work together to leave it looking and feeling more hydrated and youthful.
Firstly, Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream is very pretty, its heavy dark green jar with the signature silver lid it fits nicely with the rest of the range. Like most of the Elemis range it is only lightly fragranced which is a bonus for those with sensitive skin.
The cream itself is lovely and rich, thicker than the day cream from the same pro collagen range, but it does not feel heavy when applied. When smoothed onto the skin it sinks in quickly with no residue. And the soft scent is so reminiscent of a luxurious spa day it is instantly relaxing. By morning my skin feels lovely and soft with no tightness. Used now for about 30 days my skin feels and looks smoother and firmer, and the fine wrinkles on my temple definitely seem more filled and plumped up. My usually dry skin definitely feels much more moisturised and comfortable, having added this to my daily skin routine. How this cream performs in the winter months, when the weather and indoor heating wreak havoc on my poor skin, will be the true test. But I’m already fairly confident it will be up to the challenge!
As mentioned above Elemis is very much a luxury skincare brand and therefore all of its products have price tags that reflect that. The Pro Collagen Oxygenating Night Cream will set you back £99 for 50ml if bought at full price from Elemis. Which by anyones standards is expensive. That being said I do think that the price reflects the quality of the product and the result it achieves, so if you can afford it its definitely worth the money. You can also find great deals on various websites which can bring the price to a somewhat more reasonable level.
You can purchase this cream from the following online retailers, or directly from Elemis.
