I was so excited to get my hands on Estee Lauder’s new foundation offering – Futurist Hydra Rescue. As someone with dry and sensitive skin finding foundations that give me that coveted glow can be tricky. Matte foundations are sadly not for me. And Futurist Hydra Rescue just screamed lovely glowy hydration!
Double Wear is Estee Lauders most popular foundation, with a huge fanbase, but it’s definitely too drying and heavy for my skin. So expectations were pretty high that this new formula could be the Estee Lauder foundation that works for me!
About the product

Futurist Hydra Rescue is a breathable, medium-to-full coverage skin-loving foundation. That promises a 12-hour radiant glow, whilst also providing SPF45 broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It comes in a range of 20 shades, covering light, medium and dark skin tones. And promises to provide plumping hydration, cover imperfections and even out the skin.
The formula contains chia-seed extract, IonCharged Water and probiotic technology, all of which I’m told help to replenish, nourish and increase the water in the skin – hence the Hydra Rescue part!
Shade Swatch plus Before & After

As mentioned, Hydra Rescue comes in 20 shades, as I’m typically the palest of any foundation shade I went for 1N0 Porcelain. In the tube, and on my arm this shade looks a bit darker than expected and certainly darker than the shade swatch on the Estee Lauder website! However, when applied it evens out and was, in fact, a perfect match for my skin tone. Paler than pale!
Before After
As you can see from the before and after pictures it definitely evens out my skin and removes redness. I have only applied it for medium coverage, using a foundation brush, however it definitely can be built up to provide more even coverage.
My Review
As foundations go its quite a watery formula, and definitely sheerer in texture than I was expecting. However, it is very pigmented and does provide medium, buildable into full, coverage. I find it applies best with a brush rather than a blender, but that is just personal preference. Personally, I prefer a medium coverage base, and this gave me the perfect amount of coverage while still allowing some of my skin to show through. It claims to provide radiance and I would absolutely agree, my skin feels glowy and dewy while wearing it. And most importantly it feels lovely and hydrating, with none of the usually dry patches around my nose I sometimes experience with foundation.
It also claims to provide 12 hours of radiant coverage and again I would agree, I find it lasts me most of the day and again doesn’t start to dry out. It definitely feels weightless when applied! In terms of how this would react to more oily skin, it’s hard to say, my skin is dry so the lovely hydrating glow is perfect for me, if you’re someone more prone to oily skin then this may be too glowy for you.
The SPF needs another mention also, I love a foundation that provides some protection against sun damage, and this providing UVA/UVB SPF45 is a lovely addition. Unlike some other SPF foundations, there’s no stickiness or tackiness, you wouldn’t know that it contains an SPF at all.
Final thoughts
I really like this foundation, it’s hydrating and provides just the right amount of coverage for me without feeling cakey or heavy. I love that it gives a lovely glowy finish and it does last well. From a price point of view, at £36 it’s not prohibitively expensive and a little really does go a long way, so I do think its good value for the outcome you get with it. After I apply my powder/bronzer/ blusher on top of this foundation I’m really pleased with the results, it’s now my go-to foundation

Love your before and after pics – it really shows a difference and the value of this product
Thank you for your lovely comment, I’m glad you found it helpful 🙂
I am a huge lover of any foundation that provides SPF in it’s formula. Why stress over additional products if we can get all the benefits that we need wrapped up in one package? Right?
I have combination skin, so I’m not sure how this would do with the oily parts of my face, but I might have to give it a try and find out. It sounds like a great product!
You are so right, one less product to worry about when it’s got SPF included! Thanks for you comment 🙂
I really appreciated this post as I too have skin on the drier side. I loved how you posted the before and after – it really did make your skin look so lovely! Most importantly though, I love the SPF45 , but having said that if out in sun after the first two hours , an application of regular sun screen would be required. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for commenting! Absolutely, it’s nice to know you’ve got a bit of SPF protection but for any real time in the sun you’d definitely need a specific SPF product as well!
Great review! I also love your before and after photo coz it really showed how this foundation blends well with your skin. This sounds like a great foundation to try – hydrating, SPF, and long-lasting!
Thanks for your lovely comment! It’s really fab, I’d recommend it!
